The full name of Bhaisajyaguru is Verulia Bhaisajyaguru. Using the name of Verulia, the deity had an aspiration. As the Verulia has a luminous nature, Bhaisajyaguru hopes to achieve tranquility in the mortal world and the Pure Land of Verulia of the East was later formed. This is relative to Amitabha of the Western Pure Land who created the solemn Land of Paradise. Both form the Pure Land of Buddhism.

The Medicine Buddha Lamps at Guandu Temple are located at the Medicine Buddha Hall based below Lingshan Park. Entering through the central door of the hall, one can see a big gold statue of Bhaisajyaguru raising a Abhaya Mudra with his left hand and holds an alms bowl in front of the abdomen with his right hand. In ancient times, the alms bowl is used for pounding and grinding medicine. It represents the elixir made by Bhaisajyaguru in his alms bowl to cure worshippers of hard-to-treat illnesses, and help them to achieve good health, blessing and longevity.
